About

Social Mallard is a tiny (read as “one man”) shop providing marketing and blog consulting from our home in the ridiculously beautiful Pacific Northwest. is the professional blog home of me, Kevin Briody. My independent consulting services are off the market as I focus on my role at Ignite Social Media in my new home of North Carolina.

The blog, as a I reboot it, will cover the side of marketing that I most enjoy: community marketing – that intersection of traditional marketing and community engagement, with a side order of social media, that is changing the way companies of all sizes shape their marketing strategies. I also have an abiding love of the Wordpress blog platform, so may rant or rave on the subject from time to time.

Why “Social Mallard?” I followed the strict and ever-so-common branding principal of “adjective and/or color + animal = perfect agency name” to create and brand my personal LLC, and now my blog. And yes, I even have a site mascot.

headshotI am a veteran marketer with 13+ years experience driving community, branding, and marketing initiatives for startups, non-profits, and large companies. My most recent professional roles include marketing director for a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation funded non-profit e-learning community, driving influencer engagement for online services at a rather large software company, and current lining up partnerships at a dedicated social media agency.

A Silicon Valley native voluntarily transplanted to the great Northwest, I earned a degree in history from the University of Oregon, making me a certified Oregon Duck football fan – which mostly explains my peculiar obsession with that particular breed of fowl. I am a recent transplant to the South, now living with his wife, three daughters, a faithful MacBook and too damn much yardwork in the Eastside suburbs of Seattle. I recently retired my long standing personal blog, but I love to connect on LinkedIn, and tweet @kevinbriody.
